A vineyard selection fermented in 600-liter open barrels aged for 22 months in French oak of which 40% is new, the impressive 2009 Eenzaamheid Shiraz (Afrikaan for “solitude”) has a juicy, ebullient bouquet of red currant, raspberry, violet and a dash of white pepper. The palate is full-bodied and though not a complex Shiraz, it is well balanced and pure with crisp, vibrant peppery Shiraz fruit on the long finish. Drink 2012-2017. 91 pts Wine spectator 4/30/12
Lush and exotic, with layers of crushed plum, boysenberry preserves and roasted fig fruit all rolling together, backed by lively anise and pain d'épices notes. Rock-solid, with good acidity driving underneath. Drink now through 2016. 300 cases made.
