Quite dark and primary in color, at this stage of the wines life this is somewhat closed in and unyielding aromatically. Initial upfront notes of vanilla and toast quickly meld into the dark plum and red raspberry, dark cherry fruit tones, with some interesting peppery spice undertones lurking underneath the fruit. The color gives the impression of a wine with bigger weight and a fatter texture, but the wine is medium -fuller bodied, instead of fuller bodied, with an engaging sleekness, offering bright red fruit flavors, leaning toward red plum, red currant and raspberry.
Still quite youthful the palate has a seamless textural feel, ripe, fine grained tannins hold everything in place, with noted a acid backbone giving this a brightness and lift as well as length. This has the potential to be outstanding; it’s quite polished with excellent fruit purity and well managed oak integration. This doesn’t rely on power but is more about finesse and has the structure for good mid term aging.

Concentrated but bright, with fresh raspberry, cherry and floral notes leading the way for additional licorice, blueberry and plum sauce notes. The very silky finish shows excellent length as this airs in the glass. A very nice combination of power and elegance. Drink now through 2011. |
