We were quite impressed with South African Merlot as it showed a lot of character that really made you think about Bordeaux and its ‘Right Bank’ Merlot producing regions. Strong suggestions of graphite/pencil lead and savory earth nuances are backed up lots of red currant and darker, dusty plum fruits. The wine has excellent fruit weight and depth with finer grained tannins firming things up on the finish. This plays that Old World, New World dance to perfection.
