Reviews and other Notes |
94 pts The Wine Advocate Oct 2006 Issue #167 The profound 2005 Shiraz John Zilm was aged in new French and used American oak for 16 months. With an inky/blue/purple color, plenty of purity, richness, and depth as well as notes of incense, blackberries, licorice, pepper, and espresso roast, it offers great presence on the palate, lofty amounts of glycerin, and high alcohol (16%). Drink it over the next decade or more.
89 pts James Halliday 2008
Dense colour; complex licorice, prune, blackberry jam and chocolate aromas; floods the mouth as expected but, paradoxically has less apparent alcohol. |
Winemaker Notes |
There is no doubt the 05 vintage will prove itself to be one of the greatest. This wine has such class and will be eagerly sought after. Vines on sand are rod and spurred with a foliage wire.
On loamy soil they are spurred. |
