Here’s another show stopper on what is for sure Chile’s claim to fame varietal. Dark and primary colors give way to a gorgeous and captivating nose. Notes of vanilla and subtle toast flow into assorted dark fruit tones, blackberry and dark currant, with the varietals herbal tones adding a nice back drop aromatically. There’s a core of dense dark fruit in the palate with delicious black berry flavors and a hint of dried tobacco spice peeking through as an end note. Riper but finer grained tannins offering some grip say that this needs another year or two to hit its peak; but for those who can wait this will reward the patience. |

94 pts Wine Advocate Issue #182 April 2009
The red wines start with the saturated purple 2006 Carmenere Peumo Vineyard Block 27. The nose offers up spice box, mineral, plum, black cherry, and blueberry. This is followed by a round, mouth-filling plush wine with ripe underlying tannin, complex, spicy flavors, excellent density, and a long, fruit-filled finish. Give it 2-3 years and drink it from 2012 to 2021. 92 pts Wine Spectator 9/30/09 Top 100 2009 #63
Dark in profile, with plum and currant fruit, but very pure, with silky tannins and a long, stylish finish that lets incense, spice and mineral notes play out. Drink now through 2011. |
