Australia lately has really been highlighting its ability to produce stellar blends focusing on the red varetals out of the Rhone region of France. This small production blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre from ex-Turkey Flat winemaker Peter Schell is as good if not better, as a few we have tried over the past couple of years that got big scores and rave critical reviews. This has a beautiful lift to the fruit with an Asian spice box note working through the silky, soft textured fruit. Showing outstanding fruit purity this medium-full bodied red has a gorgeous mouth feel and layered red and dark berry flavors, cherry and raspberry, interspersed with complimentary spice and savory earth tones that give this good complexity and lingering persistence on the finish. Drink this up over the next 4-6 years to maximize its beautiful core of vibrant fruit flavors.

Peter Schell and his wife Magali Gely came to the Barossa from New Zealand, but their hearts are in France, where Gely's family still owns vineyards near Montpellier. Their wine, a dead ringer for a Chateauneuf-du-Pape, is rich and spicy, with a gorgeous core of blackberry, blueberry and plum fruit, shaded with smoky white pepper notes that keep ringing through the long, beautifully balanced finish. Tannins are there but well-submerged. Best from 2007 through 2016.

This blend has a bright spark of peppery fruit, warm as the sands of Barossa, with black, raspy berry flavors that last. Serve at cellar temperature with grilled lamb kebobs.
