The Margaret River region of Western Australia comes to mind when thinking of high quality red Bordeaux blends. But the finer versions usually come with a premium price tag, which is why the 2004 Chalice Bridge Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot blend is such a nice representation of what the region can do when it hits the high notes.
Chalice Bridge’s 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot blend (would in most countries be just labeled Cabernet Sauvignon as it is 90 % Cabernet and only 10% Merlot) is a beautiful expression of ripe, cool climate fruit. It’s a refined wine, with excellent structure and balance, elegant and yet loaded up with notions of tobacco and tea leaf aromas meshed into red and darker fruit tones. Riper tannins on the finish have gives just the right amount of grip to firm up the darker red fruit flavors, complimenting the wine’s supple mid palate perfectly. This is quite polished showing lots of class, offering up a lot of wine for the money.
