1/2/12
Casa Silva is recognized as one of Chile’s top performers when it comes to Carmenere. The nose of the 2009 Reserva Carmenere has an interesting light touch of green coffee bean that meshes with dried herbs and licorice that ride over a note of dark cherry and red currant fruit aromas. The palate is medium fuller, with cherry and red currant fruit nuanced by the varietals herbal nature, with a touch of pepper spice pushing up on the backend of the finish. This has nice drive and focus, offering good fruit definition with firmness to the finish that should soften with a little more bottle age. This is a nice intro to the varietal without being too edgy in terms of the characteristic herbal tones for a Carmenere at this price point. This represents excellent value.
