Campbell's Rutherglen Tokay outstanding value on this Aussie gem
Tasting
Notes
Bright golden brown - again brilliant and transluscent. The nose is an array of fresh cold tea. The flavors are that of rich honey and caramel/toffee. Despite the rather abundant oak treatment, the wood is well integrated and shows itself ever so slightly on the finish.
Food
Accompaniments
Serve with brandy pudding, walnuts and dates - even add a cheese board on the side.

James Halliday 94pts - Rutherglen produces some of the finest wines that Australia has to offer, and is regarded as the premiere fortified area in Australia. It is also one of Australia's oldest wine regions, with the first plantings occurring in the 1850's, Despite it's history and success over the years, it is still a rather small area with only fifteen wineries. These wineries are located along the banks of the majestic Murray River in the North-East of Victoria. Campbell's is one of the oldest wineries of Rutherglen. For four generations they have built a reputation for 'big' reds such as the Barkly Durif and classic fortifieds like The Rutherglen Muscat. Both styles are unique to the Rutherglen area, and would be a great addition to any cellar. Recently Gregg was lucky enough to visit the winery with our good freind and local guide, Anrdrew Sutherland-Smith from Warrabilla. They were treated to a private tasting of older Campbell's stickies and suffice to say, if you have space, put some of these away. Campbells are one of the best makers of young Tokay (average age five years or so) in Rutherglen. The wine has perfectly defined varietal character, and is to be drunk, rather than just sipped. It is extremely well priced.
