This is not their premium muscat - hard as it is to believe. The wine is made using the old Solera system and each harvest is added to the mix and the style has remained remarkably consitent for many years. The color falls somewhere between copper and gold and is a touch transluscent. the fruit is rather high pitched and surprisingly light on its feet - almost as if it's performing a dance. There's a hint of mountainside floral tones and raisins with a touch of peach brandy note somewhere. The mouthfeel is rich and full of fruit without displaying any signs of aggresive heat. The finish is long and rinses fresh and clean.

James Halliday 90pts - Rutherglen produces some of the finest wines that Australia has to offer, and is regarded as the premiere fortified area in Australia. It is also one of Australia's oldest wine regions, with the first plantings occurring in the 1850's, Despite it's history and success over the years, it is still a rather small area with only fifteen wineries. These wineries are located along the banks of the majestic Murray River in the North-East of Victoria. Campbell's is one of the oldest wineries of Rutherglen. For four generations they have built a reputation for 'big' reds such as the Barkly Durif and classic fortifieds like The Rutherglen Muscat. Both styles are unique to the Rutherglen area, and would be a great addition to any cellar. Recently Gregg was lucky enough to visit the winery with our good friend and local guide, Andrew Sutherland-Smith from Warrabilla. They were treated to a private tasting of older Campbell's stickies and suffice to say, if you have space, put some of these away. They are extremely well priced.
