Bodegas Caro is the story of two cultures, two families and two grapes. Bodegas Caro is a collaboration between Nicolas Catena and Domaine Baron de Rothschild of Chateau Lafite in Bordeaux. The two cultures are French and Argentine, the two grapes are Cabernet and Malbec and the two families are the Catenas and the Rothschilds. Both families have proven track records in their respective countries of making some of the best wine produced from their regions.
The union was the result of a passion to make wine that was truly special and a blend of the two signature grapes, Cabernet and Malbec. The Catena family contributed their understanding of the terroir which came from making wine in Mendoza for four generations. The Rothschilds contributed their technical expertise and their experience in blending grape varieties together to produce a wine that is greater than the sum of its parts.
The exuberant fruit flavors of Malbec are complimented by the structure and elegance of Cabernet at Bodegas Caro, which has been fully operational since 2003. The terroir is very important for this project, so vineyard sites are selected based on very strict criteria, and the vineyards include their own as well as leased vineyards.
