Bodega Goulart’s flagship 2007 Grand Vin Malbec is made by Luis Barraud, a partner in Vina Cobos. It was aged for 18 months in new French oak. A glass-staining opaque purple color, it displays a brooding but promising nose of balsam wood, graphite, mineral, violets, incense, and black cherry. Medium- to full-bodied on the palate, the wine is a bit reticent but has layered black fruit flavors, plenty of spice, ripe tannin, a smooth texture, excellent balance, and a fruit-filled finish. Give it 4-6 years of additional cellaring and drink it from 2014 to 2027.
92 pts Wine Enthusiat Magazine "Editors Choice" A purple monster with lovely aromatics of campfire, mint, blackberry and spice. Very deep in the mouth, but not overweight or even slightly out of balance. The flavors are robust and pure with an emphasis on black fruit, cassis and chocolate. And the finish brings nuances of cardamom, nutmeg and peppercorn. By far, Goulart's epic wine. Drink now through 2013.

(from vines more than 80 years old; aged entirely in new Taransaud barrels) Bright medium ruby. Very ripe if youthfully brooding aromas of blackberry, menthol and licorice brightened by sexy oak spices. Sweet, chewy and deep, with lovely energy and definition to the dark berry and bitter chocolate flavors. A very harmonious and nuanced wine, finishing broad and serious, with a fine dusting of tannins and impressive length.
90 pts Wine Spectator Magaizne 4/30/10 Ripe and muscular, showing dark plum sauce, fig paste and black currant notes, with licorice and fruitcake. The long, rounded finish lets the fruit pump through. Drink now through 2011
