The 2005 Black Oro is a blend of 57% Shiraz & 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 12 months in 2nd and 3rd year old oak barrels. This has a light capturing dark purple black to its color. The nose is somewhat closed and shy initially, with more savory than fruit notes dominating at the early stage of this wines life. With ample aeration notes of tobacco spice, smoked meat, black pepper and then a faint whiff of a floral component, almost violet, and then dark deep brooding black fruits, black currant and plums with a hint of dark chocolate comes forth aromatically. Made in a New World style the palate is quite engaging, fuller bodied, round, supple and plump, with intense, concentrated fruit and mouth coating riper tannins, almost powdery, with flavors of black berry, black currant and fig, along with some char and toast on the back end. Warm and lingering, this is quite impressive for the money and should, with some bottle age, really blossom into a wine that should drink deliciously over the next 4-5 years. |
