The 2004 Avontuur Shiraz is more about refinement and elegance than power with its sleek palate feel and seamless tannin structure. This shows true varietal definition with its smoky, meaty tones etched with a hint of white pepper to the combo of red and dark red fruits that are supported with notes of sweet vanilla as a subtle undertone on the nose. Medium –fuller bodied this shows good fruit concentration and exceptional depth and length. Quite polished and refined this just now starting to open up and should be enjoyed over the next 4-5 years.
