ALTAMIRA

Altamira Reserve Malbec 2009

92 pts Robert Parker Jr's The Wine Advocate (JM) - Succulent, nicely proportioned wine that opens in the glass to reveal excellent volume and length.

Tasting Notes

This wine shows very good color depth, with outstanding red and violet nuances, characteristic of Malbec. It amuses us with complex aromas of sweet red fruits and floral fragrances like violets, typical of Malbec. The oak provided delicate whiffs of vanilla and tobacco with a hint of white chocolate that completes the aromatic richness. The first in-mouth sensation comes from the sweetness with soft ripe tannins. The texture and structure are worthy of this variety.

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

92 pts Robert Parker Jr/'s The Wine Advocate (JM) 12/23/12
Altamira de Los Andes’ 2009 Malbec Reserve spent 18 months in 50% new French oak. Fragrant aromas of toasty oak, earthy minerals, Asian spices, leather, and black cherry lead to a velvety-textured, succulent, nicely proportioned wine that opens in the glass to reveal excellent volume and length. It will evolve for 2-3 years but can be approached now. Wine Advocate #198 Dec 2011 (JM)

Winemaker Notes

Our vineyards sites at Altamira, La Consulta and Vista Flores are considered the premier vineyards in Uco Valley - located at 3500 feet in the foothills of the Andes. The combination of strong sunlight and extreme ranges from daytime to nighttime temperatures yield small intensly colored berries and wonderful flavors of blueberry, plum and raspberry fruit. The Malbec was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
