Tasting
Notes |
|
Great color intensity in which bright/intense/vivid/lively red and violet shades stand out. In its really complex aromatic palette spicey notes such as black pepper stand out, as well as red pepper, sweet spices, floral notes of violets, chocolate and come smokey hints/accents/ aftertastes. Red fruits and tobacco complete the notes. The wine enters the mouth with sweet notes, uncovering immediately its great aroma concentration to then surprise with great body and density. Very good balance between fruit and oak. Its tannins are present but are soft and round. Very good center and elegant finish. |

93 pts Stephen Tanzers International Wine Cellar Medium ruby-red. Dark cherry, currant, licorice and minerals on the nose, plus an intriguing whiff of goat cheese. Suave, sweet and juicy but extremely unevolved, with pungent dark berry and floral flavors given great energy by perfectly integrated acidity. Still youthfully tight but already fills the mouth with perfume. Finishes extremely long and aromatic, with suave, building tannins, a suggestion of espresso and a wonderful light touch. |
Winemaker Notes |
The vineyards are located in two different zones, with different altitudes: Tupungato ( 1,250 mts. a.s.l.) and la Consulta (1,000 mts a.s.l.) Soils of both areas are completely different, they go from deeper and richer soils to more story and sandy soils. Given this situation, each yineyard called for a different hydrical treatment so that each plant recieves the amount of water it requires. Weather conditions during 2006 were excellent throughout Mendoza, especially the large thermal amplitude betwen day and night. Regarding rainfall, it was a season characterized by tghe lack of rain which caused the grapes to arrive in optimum conditions. The harvest was carried out according to the poliphenolic matuirity of each variety - a total of four; except the Merlot which was harvested towards the middle of Matrch, the rest of the varieties were harvested towards the end of April. The harvest was carried out in 300 kg. bins. After a careful hand made selection, the grapes were placed in 50 hl. tanks in which they went through a five day prefermentative cold maceration. each variety had a 30% bleeding and was produced separately. Once the fermentation began, remontages and delestages were carried out; after the alcoholic fermentation concluded, the wine was macerated for another 15 days. When the malolatic fermentation was completed each variety was decanted separately in first use
French oak barriques. The wine was matured in new French oak barrels for 18 months, then bottled and kept in our cellar another 3 years to mature. A total of 250 cases were produced of exceptional quality. |
